Manufacturing Data Integration Specialist (Job description)

 

Job Overview:

 

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Data Integration Specialist with expertise in SQL, experience with API calls, and a strong understanding of manufacturing systems, particularly PLC integration. This individual will be responsible for bridging the gap between our manufacturing systems, databases, and business intelligence platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and integration across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the engineering, IT, and production teams to build robust data solutions that enable real-time monitoring and decision-making.

 

Must Have’s

·         This is NOT a sit behind your desk role all day. Must be willing to be on the plant floor and communicate effectively with Plant Floor personnel. An outgoing personality will thrive in this role.

·         Experience in a manufacturing environment is a MUST HAVE! ·         Data Integration Background in Finance or Banking background is NOT a fit! SQL Development & Database Management: Write complex SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate manufacturing data from various databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL) to support production reporting, analytics, and business intelligence. API Integration & Development: Develop and maintain APIs for seamless integration between manufacturing systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA) and enterprise data platforms, ensuring real-time data flow for monitoring and reporting. PLC Integration: Work with the production team to integrate PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) with centralized data storage or cloud platforms for real-time data monitoring and system control. Data Quality & Validation: Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data being collected from manufacturing equipment and processes, implementing validation and error-checking protocols. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Manufacturing Data Systems: Assist in the design and implementation of data solutions to support production systems, including real-time data acquisition, visualization, and reporting dashboards. Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve issues related to data connectivity, API failures, and PLC integration in production environments. Collaboration: Work closely with IT, engineering, and production teams to gather requirements, implement system improvements, and ensure that manufacturing data is available for analytics and operational decision-making. Documentation & Reporting: Document system architectures, API workflows, database schemas, and integration processes. Provide clear reporting and updates on the status of data integration projects.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

 

Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SQL, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and optimizing database performance. Experience with API development (REST, SOAP, or similar technologies) and integration with third-party systems (e.g., ERP, MES, SCADA). Experience with PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi), including data extraction and integration into enterprise-level data systems. Familiarity with industrial protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC) for PLC and sensor communication. Understanding of manufacturing systems (e.g., MES, SCADA) and their role in production operations. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their data integration services is a plus.

 

 

Experience: 3+ years of experience in a technical role involving data integration, manufacturing systems, or industrial automation. Proven experience integrating manufacturing systems (including PLCs) with databases or business intelligence platforms. Familiarity with real-time data systems and low-latency data requirements.

 

Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in manufacturing environments. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across different departments and communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to handle high-pressure situations and ensure minimal downtime during critical system integrations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field. Familiarity with IoT (Internet of Things) applications and data collection from industrial devices. Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for manufacturing-related reporting. Experience with PLC programming and understanding of industrial control systems.
