News Operations Manager

 

 

CBS Detroit (WWJ-TV) and Detroit50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated in the #14 television market Detroit, is seeking a News Operations Manager to join our CBS Detroit news team! This role will help lead the team in both day-to-day operations and large-scale productions.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and oversee the daily video and audio quality of all news production work that appears on air for both TV stations. Manage Photojournalist staff to ensure a high level of editorial and production uniformity. Build opportunities for the development and growth of staff members in a creative, collaborative environment. Assist in evaluating, leading, and mentoring staff members to promote peak performance and efficiency. Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, team-oriented culture. Work closely with Operations Manager and station engineering technicians on all projects and newscasts. Supervise logistics set-up for special event coverage such as elections, conventions, sports events, etc. Ensure all special events are well-planned. Communicate with corporate partners, vendors and staff members about roles and responsibilities. Ensure the accurate workflow for all the videos needed for the news programs over the course of the day as well as manage the video archive system. Work closely with the News Management team to ensure compatibility of coverage and logistics. Develop strategies for the improvement of existing systems and the implementation of future technologies. Must be available via phone to answer questions during off hours and be available for weekend or night work in cases of emergencies or project deadlines.


QUALIFICATIONS 

Ability to identify and schedule personnel work directives based on observed daily operation, items in need of repair, and assigned projects. Minimum 5 years experience in large market news management experience preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of managers and staff with various levels of technical expertise and train staff. Must have strong team-building skills and work well with the rest of the newsroom. Ability to adapt to changes in work environment. Strong communication skills.
