About KOLO:

KOLO 8 News Now is the ABC and Telemundo affiliate television station serving the Reno/Sparks area, Northern Nevada, and parts of eastern California. KOLO broadcasts seven hours of news on weekdays. We are also dedicated to serving the community through KOLO Cares, partnering with area non-profit organizations.

Job Summary/Description:

The News Photographer/Editor has general responsibility of videotaping news stories, operating live equipment, and editing video for newscasts and specials.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Safely and professionally set up, operate, and tear down ENG photography gear
• Covers stories as a photojournalist, conducting interviews, and gathering information for Air when assigned
• Relaying story information to the producer, reporter, or anchors for story scripting
• Safely operating news vehicles in accordance with state laws and company policy
• Keeping in regular contact with station management and/or producers regarding the status of assigned stories
• Contributing to the pool of story ideas
• Presenting a professional appearance in public
• Create news content (on-air, online, and social networking)
• Work with anchors, producers, and managers to be consistent with the KXNV 26/ KOLO 8 brand
• Must be comfortable in live and breaking news situations
• May be called upon to fill in at short notice
• Other duties as required by management when needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must have 3 or 4 years of experience in an ENG news environment
• College degree in journalism or related field or equivalent job experience
• Understanding of basic newsroom operations
• Creative “eye” that enables him/her to capture video that enhances News storytelling on-air
• Basic knowledge of journalism ethics and libel and slander laws
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers
• Ability to operate ENG photography and editing equipment
• Ability to operate the newsroom computer system
• Familiar with EDIUS and Bitcentral as you may edit stories when assigned
• Familiar with social media and multi-platform journalism
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record and ability to maintain one
