Cave Veterinary Specialists is a multidisciplinary referral hospital located in the South West offering neurology, oncology, internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, cardiology, dentistry and anaesthesia referrals.

We are so proud of the team and culture that we have, working closely with the nursing and clinician team to provide support to referring Veterinary Surgeons and high quality care for patients in the South West.

Cave is lucky to have state of the art equipment in order to support the diagnosis and treatment of the patients as well as a highly skilled and knowledgeable team.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) role is to support the Nurse and Clinician teams with the care of patients as well as maintenance of the clinical areas.

Cave currently has a team of 9 PCA's who's role is pivotal in delivering quality care to the patients that enter our doors.

Specifically, a night PCA supports the night team with care of the patients.

The successful candidate will work alongside two Registered Veterinary Nurse* and another PCA for 5 nights and two RVN's for the 2 nights over the weekend. We also have a twilight RVN Tuesday-Friday 3pm-12am.

The rotation comprises of 7 x 12 hour shifts (1hr break included) followed by 7 days off. This position is a full-time permanent contract.

Shadowing of current team members on days and nights would be scheduled to provide the appropriate training, to equip the associate to thrive in their role. This includes inpatient care and maintenance of the wards area, CPR training to support the night team in an emergency situation, assisting with the processing of lab samples, assisting the teams in the clinical area and instrument prep.

Being part of Linnaeus, Cave is supportive and encouraging of development and progression. With the support of the central team, we actively encourage the PCA team to complete the wide array of training opportunities in order to develop knowledge and skillset. This enables us to offer the PCA role as a career. We are also aware that the PCA role is also often a stepping stone into nursing and are keen to provide a great starting block for this.
