Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented NOC Engineer to join our growing team at Alation. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the smooth operation and performance of our cloud infrastructure and SaaS application. You will be responsible for monitoring our Linux systems hosted on AWS, identifying and resolving Application incidents, and collaborating with internal teams to maintain a highly reliable platform for our users.
What you'll be doing:
Proactive Monitoring and Alerting:
Proactively monitor Alation's infrastructure on AWS, including Linux systems, for performance, health, and security issues.
Configure and maintain monitoring tools to identify potential problems before they impact users.
Analyze alerts and take appropriate actions such as troubleshooting, escalation, or remediation.
Incident Management:
Respond to network incidents efficiently, following established procedures for diagnosis, resolution, and documentation.
Work collaboratively with internal teams (Engineering, Security) to resolve incidents and restore service as quickly as possible.
Document incident details, root cause analysis, and resolution steps for future reference.
Observability & Automation:
Continuously improve Alation's observability by identifying and implementing new monitoring and logging solutions.
Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (Python, Javascript) to improve efficiency and reduce human error.
Work with the engineering team to develop and implement infrastructure automation tools.
Application Monitoring:
Monitor the performance and health of our SaaS application deployed on AWS.
Analyze application logs to identify potential issues and troubleshoot problems.
Work with the engineering team to ensure optimal application performance and user experience.
You should have:
2 - 5 years of experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or similar role.
Strong understanding of Linux system administration.
Experience working with AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, etc.) is a plus.
Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, datadog) and scripting languages (Python, Javascript).
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) is a plus.
Basic understanding of web application development concepts and familiarity with JavaScript is desired.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A big plus if you have experience in the following areas:
Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes)
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform)
Experience with incident management methodologies (ITIL)
This is a 24/7 rotational role with on-call responsibilities. You will work a standard work week with two designated off-days that rotate throughout the year to ensure optimal work-life balance.
