As the Supervisor, you will oversee staff and/or daily activities and functions for both routine and emergency maintenance. The ideal candidate has both supervisory and related work experience in the maintenance of beaches, athletic fields, open spaces, neighborhood parks, and/or natural area parks.

About the Position

The main function of this role is supervising and planning the daily maintenance activities and event support for Beaches and Water Access (BWA) sites within our Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources (PRNR) department. For more information, see below...

Organize, coordinate, and schedule daily activities and functions for assigned staff; providing daily direction, setting expectations, and providing follow-up on work tasks/projects.Recruit, interview, select, and hire applicants for vacant positions. Provide orientation and training on job duties and expectations.Manage timecard entries and approvals for self and assigned staff.Conduct annual performance reviews and provide coaching and counseling. Conduct monthly training for staff. Ensure staff follow all safety requirements for training and PPE. Ensure training is properly uploaded and documented for all supervised staff.Ensure staff have appropriate tools, equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE)/gear, and supplies to properly maintain assigned facilities.Assist division managers with developing, implementing, tracking, and completing division goals.Respond to emails, phone calls, and general requests from internal and external sources within the organization’s established timeline.Coordinate with local law enforcement for visitor safety and compliance issues. Educate visitors and staff on BWA and county rules and ordinances.Participate in ISIT and City of Venice Quarterly Walkthrough inspections.Coordinate and facilitate natural resource projects within assigned areas, scheduling the work crew and volunteer projects.Partner with Park Naturalists and Recreation Specialists for special events.Enter work requests within the appropriate work order system and track their status and completion.Complete administrative processes for invoicing, County-issued Purchasing Cards, budget, and financing.Review, follow up, and properly document compliance issues with janitorial contracts and landscape contracts, and report noncompliance issues vis appropriate format to Contract Managers.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

Sunday - Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Must be flexible as schedules may vary based on special events, holidays, supervisory coverage, and operational needs.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Business, Business Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Political Science, or a related field.

-OR- Associate degree -AND- Two (2) years of related work experience.

-OR- Minimum of High School diploma -AND- Four (4) years of related experience.

In addition, there is a minimum of One (1) year of supervisory experience required (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted).

Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Preferred ("bonus") Qualifications:

Maintenance knowledge of Beaches and Water Access coastal parks.

Knowledge of minor construction, maintenance of beaches and water access parks, and environmental stewardship.

Basic Microsoft Office computer skills. 

Proficiency in Maximo, Kronos, and email.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.

Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs. Employees can use handling devices (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50-plus pounds.
