Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. Program Description: The Isaacs Center Aging Services are funded by Department for the Aging and The New York State Office for the Aging (SOFA). About 70% of the seniors are Spanish-speaking and 5% Chinese speaking. More than 700 active members are offered daily nutritious hot lunches as well as a variety of wellness, educational, art programs, and social services. The Older Adult center services provide an opportunity for older adults (age 60+) to lead more vibrant and meaningful lives through comprehensive programming and social support including social services, health promotion, and recreational/cultural/social opportunities case assistance and health promotion. The NORC serves residents age 60+ who are residents of the NYC Housing Authority developments Isaacs Houses and Holmes Towers by providing similar services as the OAC but with Case Management, Health Care Management, and Health Assistance services to support aging in place within the NORC.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Aging Services Program Director the NORC Manager of Outreach and Program Development will be responsible for leading the implementation of outreach initiatives, conducting/supervising community, developing andoverseeing activities and events programming for NORC members, providing coordination for supplementary services e.g. food distribution as well as health promotion events; coordinating meetings of partners; provides case assistance and case management. The NORC Manager focuses on the satisfaction of the members, consultants, and community participants’ overall experience from initial engagement and participation in programming through constant effective communication and interaction. The NORC Manager will build a relationship-based membership that moves members, consultants, and community participants along a continuum from a casual connection to a committed level of involvement and the delivery of the appropriate programs and activities to ensure an engaging, energetic environment for all members of the social, wellness and recreational programs.
Schedule:Monday through Friday 35 hours per week
Salary Range:$65,000-$75,000
Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.
Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
• Meets with potential new members to explain services available and to assess client needs, oversee the initial registration process, including intake, needs assessment, and health indicator surveys, and enroll new participants.• Assist and advocate for seniors on a wide range of issues including entitlements, health and mental health care, and housing• Perform occasional assessments and make home visits to older adults to identify their needs, link them to services, and provide ongoing social contact• Document services provided according to program and agency guidelines• Implement and administer a wide variety of programming to benefit NORC participants• Conducts annual needs assessment and program satisfaction surveys to measure the impact of services provided and makes service changes based on outcomes• Conduct sustained community outreach and marketing to potential community partners who might provide services to NORC members or develop collaborative activities and initiatives• Implement, support, and follow all agency policies and procedures.• Promote the agency by performing outreach, participating in community events, and representing the agency to the public. • Develop and implement outreach strategies to reach severely isolated residents• Facilitate NORC Partners meetings to keep them informed about NORC Program development. • Coordinate off-site programming, field trips, and supervision of the participating members. • Effectively respond to program-related inquiries from the members, staff, and the community. • Perform data entry to support the flow of data and statistics for internal reporting and contract requirements. • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications, Skills & Educational Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s in social work or related field required and possess relevant experience with the aging population.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.
+ CPR certified and AED/First Aid Certified or be willing to attend both trainings
+ Bilingual, English/Spanish or English/Chinese highly preferred.
+ Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
+ Bicultural skills desirable, but not required
+ Ability to work some flexible hours (e.g., evenings and weekends)
+ Experience and success working in partnership with an aging community, residents and community organizations.
+ Success at managing a wide array of tasks and projects and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
+ Experience with and interest in working with an aging population.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and Activity Specialists.
+ Willingness to work select weekends and to occasionally adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the role and programming.
+ Excellent organization and planning skills.
