Pay Range:
$87,600.00 - $144,000.00
North America Payroll Manager is responsible for the oversight and execution of all phases of payroll in the United States and Canada which includes timely and accurate processing payroll for over 2,300 employees on bi-weekly basis. This position is a member of the Accounting team and collaborates closely with Human Resources. This role requires the ability to both manage a team and be hands-on to get the work done. The North America Payroll Manager will be the expert for all payroll and payroll related functions in Workday. In addition, the position work in partnership with the IT team and assist with system updates.
**Key Responsibilities**
Management:
+ Oversee operations of the payroll team, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the team’s goals, mission statement and vision.
+ Meet regularly with staff to keep them informed and solicit feedback, share knowledge, and encourage best business practices. Ensure that staff is motivated, mentored appropriately, and functions effectively as a team. Promote a culture that reflects the organization’s values.
+ Continually evaluate department structure, looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the group while providing group members with appropriate professional and personal growth opportunities.
+ Work closely with accounting, Human Resources, and IT to ensure payrolls are completed timely and accurately.
+ Stay current with Payroll and Human Resources regulations as well as Workday changes that affect payroll and communicate updates to relevant parties.
+ Management relationships with outsourced vendors.
System Configuration/Administration/Analysis:
+ Oversee system updates, act as primary liaison with IT and external consultants. Identify changes in update, create test scripts for users to run through to test software, and adjust any training materials if necessary.
+ Act as Project Manager for payroll related projects, developing project plans and managing project teams.
+ Ensure data integrity and audit regularly.
+ Ensure proper set-up of new pay codes, tax relationships, and other relevant configurations as needed in Workday.
+ Research, diagnose, and assist in resolution of internal and system issues.
Payroll Processing and Reporting:
+ Responsible for payroll reviews to ensure payrolls are processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations and Company policies.
+ Provide back-up support to Sr. Payroll Analyst for payroll processing.
+ Facilitate and respond to audit requests.
+ Oversee W-2 reporting process.
+ Prepare various ad-hoc payroll reports as necessary.
+ Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for payroll reporting. Maintain, update, scope, and fulfill new report requests as needed. Train team members on reporting processes.
Tax Preparation Support:
+ Oversee tax compliance strategy.
+ Provide back-up support to Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst.
+ Correspond with federal, state, and local tax agencies to resolve problems as needed
+ Partner with HR and outsourced vendors to ensure on completion of withholding and unemployment tax returns to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
+ Monitor regulatory changes and ensure necessary updates are made in Workday.
**Professional Experience / Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
+ 10+ years of progressive payroll experience including 5+ years in a management roles that included the following responsibilities: training and developing staff, process documentation and improvement, and project management
+ Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
+ Workday experience required
+ Excellent organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve a variety issues
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Strong computer skills including advanced Excel skills (pivot table, v-lookup, etc.)
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy
+ Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to handle multiple competing priorities
+ Ability to navigate complex HR data structure
+ Ability to take initiative, and with minimum supervision, and drive projects to completion
