Office-based PA / NP:  Triad Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery

 

Overview

The cardiothoracic surgery outpatient clinic APP supports the practice with a variety of essential tasks targeted toward optimizing patient outcome.

 

Responsibilities

-Conducts follow up physical assessments of patients recovering from cardiac and thoracic surgery.

 

-Orders and interprets relevant laboratory and imaging studies.

 

-Conducts medical procedures such as complex wound care, suturing, and removal of tunneled pleural drains in accordance with practice guidelines.

 

-Provides education to patients and their family regarding treatment plans, post-operative recovery, rehab, medications, and follow up.

 

-Conducts surveillance of patients referred with potential surgical disease such as thoracic aneurysms and pulmonary nodules.

 

-Performs and documents history and physical examinations for patients being scheduled for future surgeries.

 

-Assists with peer to peer reviews when requested by insurance carriers for prior authorization of diagnostics and surgical procedures.

 

-Supports the clinical office staff with patient inquires and prescription refill authorizations.

 

-Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education

Required:  Master's Degree Nursing or Master's Degree Physician Assistant Studies.  Physician assistants employed by Cone Health prior to October 14, 2024 with a bachelor's degree will have the master's degree requirement waived provided they have maintained employment and PA licensure with Board Certification.

Required: none

Preferred: 3+ years
