As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Process Engineering Group, the NPI Engineering Manager will own delivery of process technology from conceptualization through commissioning / start-up for projects of $3.0 - $20 MM in value; including, direct management for execution of process and product engineering, and technical oversight throughout detail design engineering, construction & installation, commissioning, and initial operations for new and existing technologies as business needs necessitate. The candidate must possess solid engineering fundamentals to establish engineering standards, standard work procedures, performance monitoring systems, continuous improvement, and manage technical service support to the business. In addition, the candidate will be expected to learn and understand various manufacturing processes within the business and utilizes this knowledge to collaborate with R&D, Engineering Design, Construction, Manufacturing, and various other groups to implement new solutions and processes.
What You’ll Do:
You will manage a wide range of projects driving innovative solution that will include new product launches, platform improvements, and manufacturing process upgrades by applying standard practices for manufacturing process equipment design, equipment fabrication, installation, and operations with focus on driving performance and reliability.
You will incorporate Project Management skills to fulfill duties such as project scope writing, resource management, timelines, and reporting progress to leadership to deliver business results. You will also manage group resources to provide technical support and expertise throughout the design, installation, start-up, and preliminary production runs of new processes, as well as, incorporating best practices into Global Engineering Standards and practices.
Provide engineering leadership to immediate team and support functions including performance management, career development, succession planning and mentoring. Change management owner in the NPI process as key liaison between Products, R&D, Global Engineering and Construction, and Manufacturing. Manage the relationships between various business functions while ensuring new processes achieve desired manufacturing process capability ahead of scale-up. Interface with key business functions and plant teams to promote new equipment implementation, discuss concepts for new technologies, safety requirements, and process requirements to ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration and input. Manage ideation, feasibility assessment, and technical risk assessment for process equipment innovation opportunities. Manage quality of engineering execution to ensure process technology documentation is aligned with James Hardie global standards, and specifications. Provide technical support and expertise during design, fabrication, installation, and issues resolution, including, management of technical content with equipment vendors. Ability to coordinate and manage design review meetings pertaining to process requirements, equipment design / layout, piping and instrumentation diagrams, utilities and HAZID/HAZOP. Manage execution of new design qualification testing program, including, coordinating detailed trial plans, with plant personnel, to verify manufacturing readiness. Manage group activities in providing the plant with operating guidelines and procedures, technical training, and technical oversight during start-ups to observe, troubleshoot, and document any process or scale-up issues. Using a goal-oriented leadership style to lead teams to project success focusing on the key areas of Company strength and weakness and addressing both to accomplish projects personally or overseeing the work required to deliver the project results. Position requires a minimum of 30% travel.
What You’ll Bring:
BS Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Chemical or Electrical Engineering. Degree must be from an accredited institution. 10+ years of experience in process engineering, equipment design, or advanced manufacturing engineering. Management experience required. Knowledge of Hatschek, Fiber Gypsum or paper making process preferred. Knowledge of OSHA requirements and machine standards. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in continuous manufacturing environment with experience; including Design of Experiment (DoE), to troubleshoot and optimize mechanical equipment performance. A verifiable record of developing and implementing practical and innovative solutions to complex problems. Must be able to effectively collaborate activities and lead cross-functional groups and external partners. Demonstrated use of effective and inclusive Project Management skills Demonstrated skills with personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software). Familiarity with best-practices principles such as Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management. Must possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare and present information to senior management.
