The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Natural Resources Parks and Trails Equipment Operator position in Tower, Minnesota. Hours of work are Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm. This position will also be on-call during snowmobile trail grooming season to assist with any equipment issues. This position exists to repair, maintain, and operate all Parks and Trails equipment in area 2B for use in the development of public water accesses and state trails, and to assist in the development and management of those facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Service and repair of all equipment, including leased and borrowed, within the Parks and Trails Area as necessary to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition. + Operate and monitor heavy equipment use including dozers, large trail groomers, skidders, dump trucks, tractor trailers, skid-steer with implements, tractor with implements, front end loader and excavator so that the necessary work is completed in a proper, safe and timely manner for Parks and Trails operations, maintenance and development programs. + Evaluate and recommend equipment needs for maintenance and development of trails and water access facilities to ensure efficient and cost-effective management. + Direct as a lead worker, crew development and facility maintenance by scheduling equipment, operators, and materials, so that trails and public water accesses are developed and maintained consistent with Parks and Trails goals. + To perform other related tasks as delegated by the Area Parks and Trails Supervisor/ Assistant Area Parks and Trails Supervisor so that continuity with Department programs is maintained. **Minimum Qualifications** + Position requires a Class A license, passing a pre-employment drug screen and participation in the DNR ongoing random screening program. Qualified applicants who do not have a valid Class A will be allowed up to 6 months to acquire one, as a condition of employment. + Knowledge of several types of motorized and mechanical equipment sufficient to operate, perform maintenance and repairs. + Strong mechanical skills and knowledge sufficient to diagnose and repair diesel and gas fuel systems, engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, etc. + Knowledge sufficient to rebuild and replace component parts such as starters, alternators, hydraulic cylinders, pumps and controls. + Knowledge of construction methods and materials, welding and experience in the use, limitations, safety and care of equipment and tools. + One year of experience operating heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoe loaders, excavators, skid steers, front-end loaders, trail groomers, etc. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with facility user groups and employees. **Preferred Qualifications** + Current Class A License. + Two years of experience in heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repairs. + Two years of experience in automotive repair, small engine repair, heavy equipment repair, or diesel engine repair. + Degree in automotive repair, small engine repair, heavy equipment repair, or diesel engine repair. + Experience resolving problems with equipment, involves diagnosis of a problem, communication with supervisor and staff, transportation of equipment, ordering of parts, scheduling, and repair. + Demonstrates thorough knowledge of trail construction standards and ability to efficiently operate equipment to minimize long term maintenance cost and to provide a safe and high quality user experience. + Demonstrates thorough knowledge of water access construction including boat ramps, parking lots, entrance roads and other site features. **Additional Requirements** This position requires current possession of a valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one in the first 6 months of employment. The selected applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be included in the ongoing DNR random drug and alcohol test program.
