Nuclear Fire Protection Engineer
Aplin has teamed up with a Toronto-based company to recruit a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer for a position in the nuclear industry. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of fire protection systems within nuclear facilities, contributing to the safety of personnel, the public, and the environment. This position requires expertise in fire protection engineering, familiarity with Canadian nuclear regulations, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Fire Protection System Design & Maintenance:Develop, review, and oversee the design and implementation of fire protection systems, including fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems.Ensure systems comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), NFPA standards).Regulatory Compliance & Auditing:Conduct inspections and audits of fire protection systems to ensure adherence to nuclear safety standards and regulatory requirements.Collaborate with regulatory bodies and prepare documentation for licensing and compliance.Risk Assessment & Mitigation:Perform fire hazard analyses and risk assessments for nuclear facilities, including fuel storage, reactors, and ancillary structures.Develop fire protection strategies to mitigate risks and improve system reliability.Emergency Preparedness:Collaborate with safety teams to design and implement fire safety protocols, emergency response plans, and training programs for personnel.Support fire drills and readiness exercises to enhance response efficiency.Project Support:Provide technical expertise during construction, commissioning, and modification projects in nuclear facilities.Ensure fire protection designs integrate seamlessly with other safety systems and processes.Continuous Improvement:Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and advancements in fire protection engineering, particularly in the nuclear context.Recommend and implement improvements to existing systems and practices.Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, preferably within the nuclear or high-hazard industries.Familiarity with Canadian nuclear safety standards, such as CNSC REGDOCs, and international guidelines (e.g., IAEA standards).Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of fire codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., NFPA, NBCC, CSA standards).Proficiency in fire modeling software (e.g., CFAST, FDS) and other engineering tools.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for stakeholder collaboration.
