Position Summary: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized nuclear medicine and ancillary equipment, prepares, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and ancillary medications to patients to produce images of the human anatomy and its physiology which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. Technologists with NMTCB (CNMT) and/or ARRT R.T.(N) may perform procedures at a technical level that requires sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision.

Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care. 

Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.

Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.

Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.

Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures as required based on physician’s order.

Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation to include computer processing and image enhancement and administer radiopharmaceuticals and ancillary pharmaceuticals to perform said procedures.

Completion of exam in hospital information system.

Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.

May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.

Applicable imaging departments assume “on call” and holiday rotations on a regular basis.  Nuclear Medicine  Technologists are required to cover all outpatient and hospital locations as necessary and appropriate.

Education:  

Completion of a Associates Degree program with a certificate of completion from an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.

Experience:

At least 1 (one) year of experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification

CNMT or ARRT(N) certification or eligible (If eligible, must become CNMT or ARRT(N) registered within 24 months of hire or transfer date)

South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA – Nuclear Medicine) certification required.

American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case-by-case basis). 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation physics, nuclear medicine scanning techniques, radiopharmaceuticals and their preparation, radiation safety, critical thinking, time management and effective communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
