JOB SUMMARY:

The Nursing Clinical Internship at Avera Heart Hospital is a summer well spent for students preparing for a career in nursing.  Hospital nursing is an exciting career field with many opportunities for advancement. Avera Heart Hospital is a nationally recognized leader in heart and vascular care and in the NCI program you can experience first-hand what it's like to work with this amazing team. 

The NCI provides educational and clinical experience for nursing students, enhancing their prioritization, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. The program pairs the student with a Registered Nurse mentor in the clinical setting and provides a comprehensive orientation including clinical experiences and a formal case presentation. The NCI student, under the direction of a Registered Nurse mentor, is responsible for utilizing the Nursing Process to provide nursing care for the patient.  He/she assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered on his/her shift.

 This is a paid summer program meant for student nurses within two semesters of graduation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Currently enrolled and have completed all but the final one or two semesters of a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nurse program is required. 

Available Areas: Medical/Surgical/ICU, Emergency Department, Same Day Surgical Unit
