Nurse Educator/Professional Development Procedural Area Support West Allis

Major Responsibilities:

This Teammate would be the NEPD over PAT, DS, GI, WC/HBO, Pain, and Infusion

Provides orientation to new employees and serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for staff. Identifies and meets the professional development needs of the staff and performance expectations of the department.Develops, coordinates and presents educational programs and opportunities within the department. Communicates to nurses from surrounding hospitals and facilitates their enrollment in appropriate educational offerings.Assesses the educational needs and learning barriers of the designated individual, patient care unit or clinic. Summarizes program evaluations and reports findings to appropriate individuals.Evaluates and revises curriculum based on research, best practice and/or professional standards. Acts as a consultant for educational issues and provides feedback regarding overall educational approach. Maintains records as required by the Joint Commission and hospital administration. Develops, plans, coordinates and implements in-service and continuing education programs and activities.Arranges for, completes and forwards room set-up requests in a timely manner. Responsible for setting up and operating audiovisual equipment.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, andBasic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.


Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.


Experience Required:

Requires 3 years of experience in clinical nursing. Experience in procedural spaces such as Pain, GI, Day Surgery/PACU (pre and post procedure preferred, OR circulator will also be considered).


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) or similar products.Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires physical activity standing, walking, sitting, lifting and bending,May be required to lift 10-25 lbs. occasionally when transporting education materials.Must have functional speech, vision and hearing.May be exposed to the following hazards: blood and body fluids, chemical, electrical, pressurized gasses, mechanical and radiation. Will be required to wear personalized protective equipment (PPE) as is appropriate.Generally exposed to a normal office environment.Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
