This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, assisting with endoscopic procedures and patient care while honing your nursing skills and gaining valuable experience in the medical field.
As a Nurse Extern in the Endoscopy Lab, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care and supporting the healthcare team with a variety of tasks. You'll have the opportunity to build professional relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff, while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient environment. This externship program is designed to give nursing students practical, hands-on experience in an advanced healthcare setting, preparing you for future nursing roles.
Key Responsibilities:
Professionalism & Customer Relations: Maintain a professional image and demonstrate excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers, in line with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values. Age-Specific Care: Recognize the growth and development of aging patients and understand the unique requirements for assessment, treatment, and care for specific age groups. Patient Hygiene & Environment: Ensure the hygiene and cleanliness of patients and their environment, including the Medical Unit environment, as part of overall patient care. Medication Safety & Storage: Understand appropriate medication safety protocols, including proper storage of medications such as large volume IVs, saline, and prepackaged kits. Hourly Rounds & Comfort: Conduct Hourly Rounds using Service Excellence Standards to ensure patient comfort and address concerns. Nutritional and Hydration Support: Assist with nutritional and hydration interventions such as feeding, providing fluids, and offering snacks to patients. Collaborative Communication: Communicate relevant patient data to interdisciplinary team members to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care. Data Collection: Collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks to assist in monitoring patient progress. Professional Growth & Evidence-Based Practices: Demonstrate professional growth by setting goals and engaging in Evidence-Based practice tasks. Health & Safety Protocols: Follow health and safety protocols to protect both patients and staff during all procedures and interactions. Infection Control & Standard Precautions: Adhere to infection control standards and use personal protective equipment when handling hazardous substances, including blood or bodily fluids. Competency in Key Medical Skills: Demonstrate competency in tasks such as patient handling, wound care, Foley catheter management, vital signs, and more (see job description for detailed list). Caring Environment: Foster an environment of care, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors. Transportation Duties: Assist with transportation and courier duties as directed to ensure the smooth flow of the department. Problem-Solving Initiatives: Participate in problem-solving initiatives to improve patient care and departmental processes.Qualifications/Training:
