Nurse Informatician
Job Summary

Nurse Informatician integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Facilitates data integration, information and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings. Support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processing, and information technology.

Job Duties Acts as a liaison between health services and information technology staff.Participate as a content expert for the framework that surrounds the nursing processes for assessment, diagnosis, patient and family education, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation.Articulates the informatics needs to the information technology staff and articulates the system limitations to the nursing staff.Collects appropriate information to process requests to produce accurate reports.Documents programming code and processes according to department standards.Provides input into ad hoc request processes, new report development and enhancing existing reports..Coordinates the development, documentation, and review of business requirements.Apply business rules, processes, workflow to the use of new or redesigned information technology systems.Reports initiative progress, concerns and issues to business stakeholders and project leadership.Identifies data relevant to the coordination of care of patients.Coordinates the collection and recording of data relevant to the nursing care of patients.Analyzes documents, files, reports, and other application-related nursing or case management workflows.Assures that documentation exists for procedures and other operating characteristics.Assures that the analysis and workflows address regulatory requirements.Participate as a content expert to evaluate information and assist others in developing charting tools and flow sheets to support their area of nursing practice.Recommends system enhancements to support nursing and other clinical department end users.Supports testing of application upgrades.Prepares training materials and assists with training of end users and super users.Mentors nursing staff through implementation and updates of the electronic medical record.
