This summer internship is a learning experience designed to foster the development of undergraduate level students who are pursuing a career in nursing. Under direct supervision, the nursing intern will assist with providing safe, personal patient care and perform procedures that are documented on the Nursing Intern Orientation Competency Inventory. Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process as a standard, incorporating elements of holistic family centered care through the collection, verification and organization of data about a patient’s health status, planning for care, implementation of the plan and evaluation.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: The ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language. The physical, technical and cognitive ability, as well as the manual dexterity to use patient care equipment. Demonstrates competency with specific clinical skills and techniques that have been completed through this level of the nursing program.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred plus completion of junior level or ASN 3 nursing program. Must be currently enrolled in nursing program.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to or upon hire.
Under the Supervision of Preceptor:
Completes assigned nursing interventions, including assisting the patient with activities of daily living and taking vital signs Performs tasks to promote patient comfort and safety Promptly and courteously responds to any call light. Consistently conducts regular rounds and observes patient activity Promptly and clearly observes and communicates with the RN any noted changes in the patient’s condition and pertinent information regarding the needs of the patient and significant others. Performs other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services Delivers personalized and compassionate care to all, especially those most in need.
