Summary:

The OPS/PACU Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who plans, directs and evaluates the nursing process and related activities to ensure that all facets of the plan of care are implemented via appropriate delegation. Based on their assessment, the manager plans a stardard of care and safe practices.

 

Experience/Education Requirements:

Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN required.Completion of RMC mandatory inservices, upon hire and yearly.Completion of PI introduction upon hire or within 6 months of hire.Completion of 6 hours continuing education per year desirable.Progressive experience in specialty with minimum of 2 years of experience.

License or Certification Requirements:

Current IL RN licensureCurrent CPR and ACLS certification requiredASPAN certification preferred 

Effective 4/01/2024: Upon hire or within 12 months of start date, must complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification.

 

Responsibilities:
Possess knowledge of OR, CCL, IR, and SPL procedures being performed on patients and the care requirements of these patients pre and post procedureEnsures compliance on pre-& post procedure documentation requirements based on guidelines per procedure and registry if applicableCoordinate patient treatment utilizing evidence-based guidelinesObtain necessary resources for patients, staff, physicians, and environment to support optimal patient care and positive patient experienceSupervises staff, recruits staff, conducts job interviews and provides performance evaluations to staff as well as utilizing the Just Culture Decision Matrix.Facilitates scheduling of staff and collaborates with peers on workflow to support efficiency across departments involved in patient care journey and flexes staffing needs based on patient care requirementsParticipates in budget, capital and operational, planning for department and maintaining department within budget while ensuring patients receive proper careEnsure department compliance with organizational policies and reviews and updates policies annually and provides appropriate educationKnowledge of venous and arterial access site management and ensures staff competence in post procedure site management as well as provides support for patients with sheath for optimal groin managementKnowledge of diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic imaging procedures and the required pre and post care of patients.Evaluates patient and staff safety practicesEnsures staff participation in emergency drills applicable to patient population (examples: Vascular Complication, Contrast Reaction, Cardiopulmonary Arrest)Consistently demonstrates a commitment to patient satisfaction and actively seeks ways to enhance the patient and family experience: Patients are kept informed of delays, Environment supports patient comfort/privacy/confidentiality, Providing education pre and post procedure, Discharge patients/ significant other with appropriate care plan, Follow-up call post dischargeEnhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through communication, documentation, initiation of change, creativity, innovation, participation in quality improvement (QI), evidence based practice (EBP), and research processes.Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and professional practice standards and guidelines.

Horizontal movement of patients to and from carts/beds who are unable to move independently is done with assistive lifting equipment. Lifting equipment - carry 25'-150' waist high (IV bags, patient trays). Carry charts 25'-150' waist high. Filled laundry bags are filled half full so as not to weigh over 35 lbs. Carry fire extinguishers up or down 3-4 flights of stairs and several yards in an emergency.
