Summary:

The OR/SPL Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who plans, directs and evaluates the nursing process and related activities to insure that all facets of the plan of care are implemented via appropriate delgations.  Based on his/her assessment, the OR/SPL Nurse Manager plans a standard of care and safe practices. Provides collaboration with Director to establish effective leadership within the perioperative setting. Collaborates with the Director and Business Manager to monitor the operating budget using appropriate monitoring tools. Provides input for the budgeting process to include the operating and capital budgets.

 

Experience/Education Requirements:

Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN required.Completion of RMC mandatory inservices, upon hire and yearly.Completion of 6 hours of continuing education per year desirableProgressive experience in specialty with minimum of 2 years of experience

License or Certification Requirements:

Current IL RN License (or application thereof with current work permit)

 

Effective 4/01/2024: Upon hire or within 12 months of start date, must complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification.

 

Responsibilities:
Ability to access policies and procedures on Rivernet.Ability to use all computers in departments.Acts as a consultant and resource person for service specialty charge staff, staff, physicians and Medical Center support services.Assists with monitoring all staff in a manner which assures meeting patient needs, effective staff and facility resource utilization in a cost effective and efficient manner.Evaluates staff performance.Audits charges for procedures, meds and correction for unit.Fosters a working climate which promotes teamwork, professionalism and customer satisfaction.Consistently demonstrates a commitment to patient satisfaction and actively seeks ways to enhance the patient and family experience in OR/SPL.Participates in planning and promoting unit goals which are consistent with the philosophy of Riverside Nursing Department.Participates in the preparation of the unit budgets by providing input and making recommendations.Plans and directs daily nursing activities.Promotes staff development and collaborates with the unit staff development nurse in providing class time and appropriate clinical experience.Encourages staff academic pursuits.Serves as chairperson for all unit staff meetings, provides minutes to Perioperative Services Director and Vice President.Working knowledge and documented application of the nursing process in daily work.Works with OR, SPL, OPS, PACU, PCS, PAT, IRU and SPD and anesthesia staff for most effective room and resource utilization.

Chemicals: Disinfectants, room deodorizer, glutaraldehyde
Video Display Terminals: Average
Blood and Body Fluids: Limited unless assisting in patient care areas. Appropriate universal precautions are used and protective apparel as necessary, i.e., gloves, goggles, gowns, etc.
TB or Airborne Pathogens: Patient diagnostic presentations do pose high risk, however, the OR follows universal precautions on all cases thus greatly reducing the risk to the OR personnel.

Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch):
Speech: Required to communicate with patients/families/staff/physicians.
Vision: Required to perform necessary assessments of patient status; comforting patient, operating controls on equipment, SIS.
Smell: Helpful to note presence of incontinence, vomitus, blood; electrical/fire safety.
Hearing: Necessary to hear call lights, calls for help, hear patient's concerns, hear families' concerns, hear intercom for help in a room, hear alarms (fire, etc).
Touch: Necessary to perform percussive assessments and to comfort patients. Also needed to manipulate tools.
