General Summary
The Manager/Program Coordinator works under the direction of the Director in the organization. The Manager/Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall staffing, planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling functions of the department. The Manager/Program Coordinator implements system level analysis of on-going data regarding outcomes of the Ortho/Neuro/Stroke and AvaSure programs. The Manager/Program Coordinator monitors performance and quality measures and is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating program services and activities.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills, Etc.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Management and analysis skills are necessary for the application of the management process (planning, organizing, directing, and implementing).
Working Conditions
Working conditions have limited exposure to noise, dust, extreme temperatures, etc., heavy lifting or direct exposure to illness.
Reporting Relationship
Reports to Director of Nursing.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Demonstrates the philosophy, mission, and values of the Hospital during all interactions with patients, families, staff, and others.
· Interviews, selects, ensures orientation and training of, and when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges departmental personnel.
· Develops, secures approval of, and implements the short-term and long-range departmental goals and objectives that assist the Hospital in achieving the objectives outlined in the corporate strategic business plan.
· Develops, recommends to Director, and administers the approved annual departmental operating budget.
· Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment that is in compliance with all safety standards and disaster plans.
· Establishes collaborative relationships with operational leaders and staff on educational and professional nursing practice initiatives to meet educational needs and achieve expected outcomes related to key performance indicators and system/nursing strategic plans.
· Directs the preparation and maintenance of routine departmental records and reports, as well as special and periodic reports and/or analyses.
· Demonstrates current clinical knowledge and sound judgement utilizing the nursing process in providing patient care.
· Investigates and documents complaints or incidents involving staff and recommends corrective action.
· Informs appropriate Director and other senior leaders of all unusual occurrences.
· Maintains knowledge and skill in labor management and working with a union contract.
· Participates in Quality initiatives including Root Cause Analysis. Encourages staff understanding and participation in same.
· Provides professional growth and development of staff by identifying needs, providing educational programs, encouraging formal education processes, and evaluating learning needs.
· Works collaboratively with Physicians to ensure communication and assessment of departments, while assuring proper care of patient.
· Utilizes staff satisfaction results to establish engagement and input process from staff.
· Maintains BLS.
· Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.
· Complies with safety practice issues related to own responsibilities and those of co-workers as described in OSHA regulations.
· Responsible for establishing and monitoring clinical performance criteria, responsible for assuring compliance with Ortho/Stroke regulatory requirements.
· Effectively utilizes and develops quality scorecards for Ortho and Stroke programs from the data collected to monitor and report performance on programs, initiatives, and targeted improvement efforts to ensure educational programs meet organizational needs such as improvements in nurse sensitive clinical outcomes, HCAHPS, financial, nurse turnover, etc.
· Provides overall direction necessary to ensure that programs are provided in accordance with standards established by BSMH and outside regulatory and licensing agencies.
· Ensures data submission monthly for CMIP.
· Provides updates to clinical practice guideline according to TJC standards.
· Responsible for Stroke Survey and primary point of contact with JC surveyors.
· Develops and updates all program process improvement plans.
· Collaborates with Orthopedic Service Line Director for Ortho, along with Medical and ED coordinator for Stroke along with Nurse Educators for both areas.
· Collaborates with Community Health for community screening events.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
