Responsibilities • Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice. • Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines. • Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility. • Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary teamwork. • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. • Remains competent and available to participate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty. • Demonstrates personal and professional growth and promotes the same among team members. • Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job. • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care. Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance. • Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department as needed. • Assists in developing annual budget and takes appropriate action when appropriate to maintain control of department financial resources. • Implements evidence-based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modifications for attainment of goals. • Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply, and follow personnel policies/procedures. • Represents UPHDM in a professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel. • Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment. • Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital. • Instructs and leads team members so that a high level of productivity is maintained. Can intervene when necessary to problem solve. • Demonstrates the ability to be fair and impartial while maintaining a professional relationship. • Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area). • Participates in interdepartmental projects for personal and professional development. • Participates in orientation & cross training throughout the Behavioral Health Service Line. This includes training and staffing coverage (if needed) within ECT procedural area and the child/adolescent unit. • Serves as a liaison for senior leadership during times of nurse manager absence. 90 % Basic UPH Performance Criteria • Demonstrates the UPHDM Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. • This position may be assigned a specific mission during an emergency situation and/or to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPHDM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Qualifications Education: Registered nurse with active RN license Willing and able to achieve BSN within 3 years Experience: One-year experience as a registered nurse Experience in specialty area preferred License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa license as a registered nurse Current BCLS (CPR) Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
