Nurse OB (Case Manager)
Summary This position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge South Dakota. Primary responsibilities are to provide case management services to needing coordination of care through Purchased Referred Care and the OB Department. Provides direct patient care to clinical Obstetric patients and assists in Obstetric Department clinics. Functions as an OB nurse in assessing planning and implementing and evaluating the care of OB patients. Consults with OB provider and other team members as necessary. Assist in clinics as needed. Makes rounds of patient care areas to review charts for appropriateness, completeness, and timeline of documentation by providers. Makes daily rounds to meet newly admitted patients for assessment/referral of patient's clinical needs. Develops a therapeutic environment which allows patient(s) and families to have confidence in the Nurse. Plans with other health care professionals and Multidisciplinary team involved with providing services to patient(s) and their families and coordinates the care which is provided. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Nurse Series 0610 (opm.gov) Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently carrying out the duties of providing and coordinating with staff education by assessing and providing educational needs on OB department patient care; Develop/maintain a tracking system for patient care coordination and care management across the continuum; independently plans and provides nursing care based on professional nursing practices and medical protocols or guidelines for patients; collaborating with the physicians to develop clinical protocols and guidelines that establish standards of care; providing case management for patients by coordinating services to meet patient's care goals. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Additional Information Physical Demands: Work requires considerable periods of walking, standing, pushing, bending and lifting in helping patients to and from beds, stretchers, etc., and in moving equipment and supplies. Shifts are rotating, days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required.
