The Nurse Practitioner will assess and provide care to Sleep-Wake Disorder Center patients in collaboration with physicians. The NP will be responsible for carrying out the plan of care for his/her patient panel. The NP will assist in the management of a variety of patients who suffer from sleep disorders, and assist the physicians and secretaries in the management of positive airway pressure devices (PAP), and the approvals of prescription of medications. NP will be involved in the full range of sleep services offered, including, but not limited to, performing a detailed sleep history and examination, ordering appropriate diagnostic evaluations, implementing both pharmacological and non-pharmacological management strategies, and administering sleep related therapeutic procedures. In addition, the NP contributes to the actualization of the philosophy and objectives of the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center by participating in performance improvement, research activities, and maintaining professional practice standards and clinical expertise.
Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with physicians and other health care providers to coordinate plan of care and patients’ health goals; modifies plan of care accordingly Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures and tests within the scope of privileging Develops and analyzes differential diagnoses based on clinical and laboratory data Prescribes medications and educates the patient and/or involved others about the drug regimen, interactions and side effects Performs related duties as necessary to ensure appropriate delivery per plan of care
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Required Master’s Degree Preferred 5 years experience in Nursing New York State License for a Registered Professional Nurse and current registration and permit to practice in NYS as an RN New York State Nurse Practitioner specialty certification and registration Master’s or post Master’s Certificate in specialty as a nurse practitioner preferred; or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to N.Y. State Education Department and the Director of Nursing and/or Chairman of the Department, or Division Director. Good working knowledge of EPIC
