Position Summary:
Reports administratively to the health services administrator and clinically to the physician. Provides routine and emergency health care to inmates through sick call, chronic clinic, medical observation, routine physical examination and other means in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, MTC Medical, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives. Gadsden Correctional Facility is a gender responsive, trauma informed female facility. Your responsibilities will include the application of gender responsive and trauma informed care and practices while working with female offenders.
Essential Functions:
1. Manage and conduct coordinated healthcare services for inmate population. Coordinate all phases of direct medical care.
2. Provide continuing medical services to inmates in clinical provider-patient relationships, including examination, diagnostic and emergency treatment.
3. Perform emergency treatment of inmates, visitors and staff.
4. Recommend inmates for psychiatric and psychological evaluations.
5. Coordinate with other departments and outside organizations to ensure continuity of healthcare.
6. Consult regularly with other providers to ensure care is appropriately provided.
7. Serves in rotation with other medical staff to provide after-hours and weekend inmate care, to include accepting on-call rotation.
8. Assist in taking inventory and requisitioning or medical supplies. Ensure proper administration and control of medications.
9. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
10. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills, procedures and intervention techniques.
11. Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensed in the state of Florida as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant and continuing education required by MTC Medical and professional regulatory board. Any additional licenses or certifications (e.g.: CPR, DEA registration) mandatory. Two to five years’ experience is recommended, preferably in the correctional or emergency medicine environment. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements:
Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
