Summary:
The Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) will be an integral member of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology at Hasbro Children�s Hospital which consists of two board-certified pediatric nephrologists. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology currently provides a wide array of clinical services (both inpatient and outpatient) including but not necessarily limited to: diagnosis and management of acute and chronic renal disease multi-disciplinary care of patients with Lupus and other forms of vasculitis 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring peritoneal and hemodialysis services acute CRRT in the ICU consultation service to the NICU night call coverage and a broad array of student and trainee educational activities.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area.
Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.
Provides leadership in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
Oversees care coordination in acute home care and ambulatory care settings as feasible.
Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support education and encouragement.
Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.
Provides direct care to patients in acute care ambulatory care and home care settings.
Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.
Participates in the education clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.
Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
Annually completes mandatory safety infection control BLS and ACLS/PALS.
Prescriptive privileges per licensure.

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor�s Degree in Nursing. Masters of Science Degree Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Responds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education certification and work experience.
