Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Director of the University Health Center, the Nurse Practitioner provides evidence-informed primary care services and outreach to students, and provides health and wellness consultation to the Montclair State University community. This position actively participates in University committees/activities as well as administrative duties as assigned by the Director.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct primary care to students including physical, developmental and psychosocial well- being.Consults with collaborating physician as needed for health care issues beyond the nurse practitioner's scope of practice.Determines presence of social risk behaviors when obtaining health histories and responds with appropriate education, screening and/or referrals.Documents all patient care and communication in the electronic medical record.Interprets laboratory results and implements appropriate health care response.Implements follow-up contact and care as needed.Collaborates with other campus resources to provide holistic care and support for all clients.Recognizes and respects multicultural influences on health care decisions and individualizes plan of care accordingly.Maintains strict confidentiality of medical information.Evaluates wellness practices of student population and implements outreach programs and services.Participates in chart review procedures as required by the collaboration agreement established between the Student Health Center and Mountainside Family Practice Associates.Assists in the general administration of Student Health Center operations as assigned.Provides on-going evaluation of services with the goal of improvement and expansion of services.Assists Assistant Director with accreditation achievement and continuation through protocol development/revision, quality assurance and quality improvement projects.Maintains technology proficiency including knowledge of telehealth, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and database programs.Maintains professional licensure and certification through continuing education opportunities, current literature review, maintenance of necessary computer skills and membership in appropriate professional organizations.Develops and maintains a proficiency in emergency preparedness and campus violence prevention and response concepts.Participates in University committees and activities as assigned.Performs other duties as assigned.Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.A minimum of four years of professional primary care experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse.Current New Jersey licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in New Jersey.Current New Jersey licensure as a Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse in Adult, Family or Women's Health with prescriptive authority.National certification by an approved accrediting body as an Adult or Family or Woman's Health       Nurse Practitioner.Experience in gynecologic and reproductive health, common mental health disorders,gender-affirming care, LGBTQ+ health care, and PrEP/PEP or a willingness to learn. Skilled in documentation in Electronic Medical record, telehealth.Strong interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED:

Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds.Experience in a college health setting.
