The Nurse Practitioner, Hospitalist Service extends clinical care to acute inpatients. Plans and coordinates rehabilitation, patient care plans, follow-up services of patients with acute and chronic medical conditions. Provides comprehensive medical care to patients, collaboration with physicians and staff. This includes medical evaluation, formulating treatment and providing counseling/prescribing medication to patients within the scope of practice.

GENERAL DUTIES
Consultation:
Performs admission evaluation or admits and manages patients as requested. Provides general internal medicine or pediatric consultative services and treatment for patients. Observes inpatients and provides consultation services to surgical colleagues. Provides consultation to nursing personnel, other health care professionals regarding specific analysis and problem resolution. Coordinates care with appropriate specialty providers. Refers patients to specialty services based on the medical requirement, educates the patients and their family members on the medical conditions as a health care advocate.
Other Duties:
Obtains comprehensive medical histories of patients, performs standard physical examinations and documents the findings of health assessments on their medical records. Maintains complete documentation of clinical work performed and completion of billing encounter sheets. Diagnoses medical problems, orders treatments, and performs minor surgical procedures such as suturing, casting, etc. along with other non-surgical procedures.
Attends continuing educational programs to maintain licensure and to keep abreast of current practice within specialty, including specialty certification. Complies with associated LCMC facility’s medical staff bylaws policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to Allied Health Professionals/Advanced Practice Providers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Combination of appropriate education and work experienced is required:
Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program with 2 years of related experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of APRN procedures specific to the role: chest tube placement, endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, needle thoracotomy, percutaneous central line placement, peripheral artery puncture and cannulation, removal of thoracotomy tube, suprapubic bladder aspiration. Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
