Job Description
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at M Health Fairview is seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (with certification for patients through the life span, infant to adults), preferably with experience or advanced training in Otolaryngology. Working with the Otolaryngology Faculty, the candidate will be primarily caring for patients in the outpatient clinic setting with opportunity for first assist in the OR. The primary locations will be at M Health Fairview Fridley, Elk River and Maplewood.
Responsibilities will include providing care and education to patients with various otolaryngologic conditions in coordination with the attending physicians and performing various procedures in the office setting. Procedures include, but are not limited to: biopsies, nasal packing and nasal cautery, suture and drain removal, ear cleaning, and laryngoscopy. Experience in otolaryngology preferred; however new graduates are welcome to apply.
This is a full-time daytime position. There may be call responsibilities during the week with no night call. At this time, there are no weekends required, though this may be added in the distant future. Essential Functions
Demonstrate proficiency in the care of all age groups; neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged, adolescents, and adults.Perform history and physicals and consults in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.Make hospital rounds and write daily progress notes on patients as medically indicated.Assist the surgeons in the operating room with surgical procedures as requested.Perform office-based procedures under the supervision of an attending physician. This may include removal of cerumen, assist with flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy, head/neck/oral cavity biopsies, nasal packing, cautery, drain removal, suture removal, etc.Educate patients, families and other stakeholders on otolaryngologic conditions and plan of care. Provide ongoing general education to all clinic staff and personnel who work with our patient populationParticipate in divisional, departmental, and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of M Health Fairview.Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited program with current PA certificationCurrent license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the State of MinnesotaCurrent BLS certificationOR
