Responsibilities

Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) classified as Level IV surgical position covering operating room, ICU, step down unit, and outpatient clinic.  

OR responsibilities: first assist in cardiac and thoracic surgery cases, endoscopic vein harvest, open vein harvest, radial artery harvest.Hospital responsibilities:  Preoperative admissions, consultations, medical optimization/ management, ICU, step down, and discharges.Outpatient clinic responsibilities: new consults, established patient care, postoperative follow up visits, and coordination of follow up care with other services. 

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at Mayo Clinic may perform the following tasks in any authorized setting:

Surgical first assistObtaining patient historyPerforming physical examinationsOrdering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic proceduresFormulating a diagnostic impressionDeveloping and implementing a treatment planMonitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventionsOffering counseling and education to meet patient needsMaking appropriate referralsPrescribing and dispensing prescription medication in accordance with FL state laws and department policiesPerforming minor procedures and surgical proceduresDemonstrates ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to patient's age-specific needs.Assist with ongoing departmental process improvement and policy developmentOther departmental or institutional committee assignments as needed

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years’ NP/PA experience preferably in cardiac and/ or thoracic surgery.  Will consider New Grads with surgical experience during training only.

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP.  

Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.  

Additional Qualifications: 
Must have surgical first assist experience in the operating room.

Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required.

**Night and weekend call required. Monday – Friday 7AM – 4PM. Work schedule must be flexible. Work hours and days may vary due to patient care/ OR coverage.
