Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Emergency Department

UP Health System-Portage, part of regional UP Health System in Hancock, Michigan (UP, the gateway to the Keweenaw Peninsula) is growing with the addition of an employed, full time BC/BE Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to strengthen our established team. Those who are currently practicing or are currently in training can be considered. 

Position Detail:
•    Single specialty, Emergency Medicine 
•    Full-time, 15 shifts per month, 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, every other weekend
•    5 employed physicians
•    ACS verified Level III trauma center
•    Emergency Physician provides basic admission orders for hospitalists 5 pm -7a
•    Psych patients are handled by a 24-hour on-call Psych counselor/ social worker (no inpatient psych unit)
•    Rapid triage system, 3-5 minutes 
•    Meditech EMR
•    Digital radiology
•    Additional ancillary services on site: Lab, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab
•    11 ED beds, including 8 private rooms (one behavioral health), and a 3 bay trauma room


Position Requirements:
Master’s Degree Required
Current MI Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant Licensure Required
Annual Influenza Vaccination or Declination Required

Hospital: UP Health System-Portage has been providing comprehensive healthcare for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan since 1896. The 36-bed hospital is a verified chest pain center through the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) and houses the area’s only open bore MRI machine. UPHS-Portage was home to the first Level III ACS (American College of Surgeons) verified trauma center and emergency department in the state.
