·Anticipates and effectively manages changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of patient acuity/care needed
·Role models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety
·Enforces and interprets policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
·Ensures proper staffing for each unit, keeping staff ratio, appropriate staffing for patient care needs, covering call-offs and vacation time.
·Ensures chart checks are completed, seclusion/restraint log is up to date and nursing assessments are completed, as well as MAR’s and report sheets are kept accurate and up to date.
·Ensures rounds are completed consistently throughout the shift and perform random audits.
·Assists CNO to make sure all staff are oriented and competent to perform required duties. May include coaching and administering disciplinary action to staff.
·Provides mentoring and training as needed.
·Assists CNO by ensuring facility compliance with professional, regulatory and governmental standards.
·Ensures the effective delivery of competent, compassionate and safe care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes and outcomes on the patient care units.
·Coordinates all care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensure consultations are ordered.
·Documents medical, behavioral health information and nursing care.
·Administers medications and maintain records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
·Assists in developing a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs. Assist in updating and revising the plan of care as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes.
·Prioritizes tasks and delegate staff to ensure quality patient care.
· Leads on shift for all admissions and discharges, as well as informing physician of changes in the patient’s conditions. Adjusts staffing accordingly.
·Utilizes administrator-on-call for situations that require additional attention.
·Provides direct care as needed.
· Assists with assigned patient loads when needed.
· Completes mock code training exercises.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
·Performs other functions and tasks as assigned.
·Supervisors will be expected to attend 1 monthly nursing leadership meeting per month, as well as 1 nursing department training per month, in addition to shift duties.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
·Current unrestricted license in State of facility. At least 3 years of inpatient psychiatric experience required, 1 year in leadership preferred. 1 year in for profit psychiatric facility preferred.
·Must be able to promote goals identified by department leadership.
·Must be able to receive and apply performance-based feedback to improve performance.
·Must have excellent time management and critical thinking skills.
·Must show appropriate prioritization.
·Must be self-motivated and show ability to autonomously work.
·Must be a team player and professional.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
·Current certification or license to teach within the state where the facility is located.
·CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
·First aid may be required based on state or facility.
