MedSurg is our 44 bed hospital unit that provides direct care for the general Medical Surgical population in Ludington, Mason County and surrounding counties in West Michigan.

They care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, pneumonia, cellulitis, kidney failure, hyperglycemia, Diabetic Issues, Ulcers, Confused Elderly, Alcohol Abuse, Acute/Chronic Kidney Injury, Sepsis, Psychiatric Population.

Scope of work

This resource role is intended for covering staffing gaps on variable open shifts, day or night. Self Scheduling for open shifts would begin after training weeks are completed, and would require flexible availability to cover mostly night shifts, and occasional daytime if there is a need by the team.

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.  Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Orientation

Orientation for the first week of employment as Nurse Tech requires weekday classes, 8am - 4:30pm within our Big Rapids Hospital Classroom.
