The Nursing Administrator is an integral part of the Residential Program’s team which strives to provide opportunities for our adult group home residents with developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives and increase their independence.
When a group of families came together in 1957 to find services for their children with developmental disabilities, ACLD was born. Today, we are a leading not-for-profit agency employing 1200+ staff and providing over 70 program sites in Nassau and Suffolk. ACLD assists children, teens and adults in reaching the highest level of independence with the freedom to ASPIRE HIGHER in their hopes, dreams and accomplishments. Requirements RN certification, currently licensed by the New York State Department of Education; including all mandated certifications. The ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person, including supporting another person’s body with their own. General knowledge of medications and their interactions. Five years RN experience, one year developmentally disabled experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of OPWDD regulations.

Ability to apply principles of logic or theoretical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems and to identify problems, interpret data and draw conclusions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to coach, aid counsel, interpret and advise, and the ability to professionally develop and report problems. Ability to work independently. Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings/late nights and on call for weekends and recognize and respond to emergency situations. Supervise the residential nurses in order to ensure that all medical services meet the guidelines as established by OPWDD regulations and ACLD best practices. Participate in the interviewing, hiring, training and evaluation of all assigned nursing staff. Design and establish monitoring systems which promote organizational efficiencies, as well as compliance with ACLD policies. These systems should focus on individual health and safety, staff development and training in health management areas. Participate in the nursing on-call and weekend on-call systems. Participate and collaborate in clinical team meetings and ensure all recommendations are implemented in a timely manner. Attend residential nursing meetings, and ensure all trainings/certifications are current. Obtain and maintain the ability to teach AMAP course curriculum as assigned under the auspices of the Center for Learning. Conduct site visits as assigned in order to assess compliance with OPWDD regulations and ACLD best practices. Ensure that all nursing plans of care are current and implemented in a timely manner for all new and existing medical diagnoses. Participate in internal self-surveys and OPWDD certification surveys of residential programs and act as a liaison between the auditors and residential nurse/manager. Participate in the development and implementation of all plans of corrective actions and ensure their ongoing regulatory compliance. Participate and facilitate in the admissions and discharge process. Ensure proper diet orders are prescribed and are implemented consistently. Ensure necessary informed consents are in place as per OPWDD regulations. Ensure coordination of all medical oversight, including but not limited to hospitalizations (admissions and discharges), surgeries and significant medical procedures, including ensuring that proper consents are in place. Provide direct nursing oversight when vacancies occur in the residential nursing structure. Maintain collaborative relationships with other ACLD programs and departments to maximize service coordination and integration. Other duties, as assigned.Schedule:
