Join Our Team as a Full-Time Nursing Assistant on 7 South at UPMC Hamot!

Are you passionate about providing compassionate care in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? We are currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Nursing Assistant to join our team on 7 South, UPMC Hamot’s Medical/Oncology Acute Care Unit.

7 South is a 46-bed unit that specializes in oncology care, providing comprehensive services to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical conditions. Our team cares for patients receiving chemotherapy, blood product transfusions, IV hydration, and other critical treatments. With 12 step-down beds for those needing a higher level of care, you’ll be part of a team that supports patients through complex medical journeys, including pain management, wound care, diabetes care, and more.

This position is rotating day/night schedule, providing flexibility and variety in your workday.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

The Nursing Assistant provides routine patient care and support services in accordance with established policies and procedures. Under the direction of a nurse or physician, the Nursing Assistant ensures the highest quality of patient care is maintained at all times. This includes providing direct patient care as directed by the RN, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), point-of-care testing, vital signs, specimen collection, and other supportive tasks.

Responsibilities:

Communicates clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the healthcare profession. Ensures patient and workplace safety by supporting a safe environment for both patients and staff. Develops and maintains productive working relationships by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Supports and suggests improvements within the department, taking responsibility for assignments and viewing challenges as opportunities for growth. Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department and assists in maintaining a safe, organized environment. Provides direct patient care as directed by the RN, including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients. Assists with vital signs, point-of-care testing (including blood glucose), weight measurements, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, I&O, and specimen collection. Assists with the prevention of Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI), including the use of TEDs/SCDs, restraint placement/removal, and “ticket to ride” tasks. Offers companionship and supervision to patients on a one-on-one basis as required. Completes clerical functions and provides additional support as needed, such as distributing meals, filling water pitchers, and delivering patient mail. Assists with cleaning and organizing patient rooms, emptying linen hampers, and keeping hallways free of equipment. Orders, charges, and restocks supplies and equipment to ensure effective patient care. Documents patient care and observations in the medical record according to established procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen exposure protocols. Responds promptly to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role. Performs duties in line with system-wide competencies and behaviors, ensuring quality care and safety at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.
