Summary:

The RMC Medical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists with the care of patients ranging from neonate to geriatric under the direction of the professional nurse. The individual is also responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties as needed.

Experience/Education Requirements:

Completion of certified nurse aid course.

License or Certification Requirements:

CNA certificate registered with the State of Illinois or equivalent.Current CPR certification or obtainment within 6 months of hiring with subsequent recertification preferred.

 

Responsibilities:

ACT, One Touches, 12 lead EKGAnswer call lights in a timely and courteous manner.Answers telephones courteously and relays messages for staff and physicians.Assist patients with all aspects of ADL'sFollow the interdisciplinary plan of care developed by the professional nurse.Helps RN prepare patient for discharge, help transport patient and prepare patient for transport.Make beds, occupied or unoccupied.Participates in Performance Improvement Activities.Prepares patient for RN/physician assessment by obtaining vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, O2 sat), patient weight and document I & O's.Reports changes in patients' condition to the professional nurse.Restocks supplies in patient rooms.Transports patients via cart and/or wheelchair.Utilizes safety restraints appropriately.

Hearing: Necessary to hear alarms, yells for help and to hear patient verbalizations.

Lifting of patients off their beds that are unable to move independently is done with assistive lifting equipment. Horizontal movement of patients to and from carts/beds who are unable to move independently is done with assistive lifting equipment. Lifting equipment - carry 25-150'- waist high (IV bags, patient trays). Carry charts 25-150' waist high. Filled laundry bags are filled half full so as not to weigh over 35 lbs. Carry fire extinguishers down 1/2 flight of stairs or up 3-4 flights of stairs and several yards in an emergency.
