Summary About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Nursing at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio TX. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Responsibilities Take and record blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight; measure and record intake and output; and give routine care to pre and postoperative and pre and postpartum patients. Provide patient care as assigned to include documentation of nursing activities in patients' records, as appropriate. Receive telephone calls, patients, and visitors to the medical facility, ascertains the nature of the call or visit. Verify patient's eligibility for treatment (TRICARE enrollment, DEERS check, TD card, etc.). Operate automated data processing equipment to input, store, revise, and print data related to appointments, care provider schedules, and templates. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing nursing care, such as, feeding, bathing, or transporting patients; maintaining patient medical records; and obtaining vital signs or specimens from patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-03. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04: Successful completion of a two-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04: If you have some, but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
