POSITION SUMMARY
Under the Supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the oversight of all nursing practices and procedures related to an individual’s plan of care in accordance with established rules and New York State regulations and agency policy. The Nurse Manager is responsible for supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses/Registered Nurses in assigned programs and the evaluation of their performance.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Oversees the implementation of person specific Nursing Plans of Service based on individual’s healthcare needs.
• This role is performed in-person.
• Assists with hiring, onboarding, directing, mentoring, developing, retaining and scheduling staff, including communicating job expectations and providing performance reviews.
• Manages personnel by supervising, training, evaluating, and observing assigned team members.
• Ensures all assigned team members are fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of their positions. Provides supervision and guidance to all assigned team members on an ongoing basis. Addresses performance issues through performance improvement or corrective action measures.
• Ensures team members are appropriately educated on each individual’s healthcare and medical needs.
• Performs necessary assessments of individuals including, but not limited to visuals, self-medication, bowel management, and monitoring effects of medication.
• Assists with the oversight of practices to ensure medications are properly supplied, stored, and secured and that Medication Administration Records are reviewed as indicated.
• Validates individual’s medical records are up to date with all medical documentation through
internal reviews as directed by the Director of Nursing.
• Oversees, recommends, and evaluates the nursing services in assigned residential/day
programs.
• Monitors and ensures programs compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and
department/agency policies.
• Assists with developing and maintaining nursing protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure
continuous quality improvement in service delivery.
• Follows HIPAA and OSHA regulations, including universal precautions.
• Supervises AMAP team members during certification/recertification and completes spot
checks as needed.
• Assists with designing, directing, and conducting training for department staff, including new
hires.
• Attends IDT, Nurses meetings as assigned.
• Meets monthly with direct supports for face-to-face support meetings.
• Assists with nursing coverage to assigned programs during vacancies.
• Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews;
by implementing production, productivity and quality; by resolving problems; and by
identifying system improvements.
• Monitors health status of individuals by scheduling and assigning nursing staff and following
up on work results.
• Promotes individuals' independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching and counseling
patients, direct care staff to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care
skills.
• Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed /processed
appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds.
• Performs on-call responsibility as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of FREE Employees in Leadership/Management Positions:

administrative functions.
• Assists in the development, implementation and administration of Human Resources policies

QUALIFICATIONS
• Education:
o Associate Degree in Nursing required, Bachler’s Degree preferred
• Experience:
o Minimum 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably with the ID/DD population
o Supervisory experience preferred
• Specialized Training, Licenses, Certifications:
o Valid Current NYS RN License
• Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
o Computer literacy required; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
o Must have an ability to establish positive working relationships with colleagues,
management, clinicians, external providers and all other valued stakeholders
o Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed
and anticipating needs is essential
o Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent communication skills
o Knowledge of OPWDD and OMH preferred
• Other Requirements:
o Valid NYS Driver’s License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for FREE
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is performed in-person, some travel between FREE Network locations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Employee is required to sit, walk and stand for prolonged period of time (at least 8 hours)
• Employee is required to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Employee is required to operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones,
photocopiers, fax and filing cabinets
• Employee is required to reach with hands and arms
• Employee is required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or stand on a stool as needed
• Employee is required to be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
