Nursing Quality Improvement & Data Specialist
*Description* *Purpose: *Oversees the coordination and submission of nursing sensitive quality data needed to support the organization’s participation in the National Database of Nursing Indicators (NDNQI) and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) programs. Develops nursing focused quality reports, dashboards, and focus studies utilizing data from a variety of source systems including Cerner Millenium electronic health record, Midas+ quality reporting system, and Vizient clinical database among others. Facilitates and supports nursing-focused quality improvement initiatives through the use of process improvement, change management, and project management tools and methods. *Essential Responsibilities (Ideally there will be 8-10 TOTAL. Including the 3 below which are required. The MAX allowed is 15 responsibilities.)* * *National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI)*: Serves as an internal resource on the NDNQI program, providing guidance, coordination, and training to others and managing the organization’s submission of nursing sensitive indicators to NDNQI. * Chairs the organization’s NDNQI committee, establishing agendas, membership and processes needed to for effective meetings and regulatory compliance. * Collaborates with staff, medical staff, and hospital leaders to ensure meaningful and actionable nursing-focused quality data, reports, and dashboards are in place and being used on a consistent basis to allow the organization to understand its current state of performance and where focused improvement efforts are needed. * *Quality Data: *Effectively utilizes a variety of reporting tools including the Midas Reportrack and Smartrack to build reports, indicators, and profiles to be used in quality and safety reporting. * Builds and distributes Microsoft Excel templates for pivot tables and graphs needed for data reporting and analysis. * Builds and manages worklists needed for Midas safety incident reporting and assists end-users with creating focus studies to support their quality data needs and keep lists current. * Assist with developing the monthly Midas updates newsletter and facilitates the monthly Midas committee meetings. * Assist with other quality reporting duties such as submission of data to The Joint Commission and special projects as directed by leadership. * *Nursing-focused Quality Improvement*: Using the data-driven approaches described above, identifies high priority improvement opportunities, helps develop workplans and engage teams necessary to improve processes, and provide follow-up & monitoring to evaluate progress and ensure process changes are hardwired. * Effectively utilizes process improvement, change management, and project management tools and methods to accomplish project goals and objectives. * Participates in and supports a variety of quality improvement and regulatory readiness initiatives, teams, and committees and works closely with hospital and ambulatory quality teams on system wide learning and improvement opportunities. * Works closely with all other departments and staff to establish positive working relationships and the processes needed for becoming a highly reliable organization with a Just Culture. * Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values. * Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance. * Performs other duties as required. ** ** *Education and Experience Requirements: * * Registered Nurse with Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. * Three (3)+ years of nursing experience in an acute care setting required. * Experience facilitating quality improvement projects is required. * Experience managing data, creating reports, charts, graphs, and dashboards is required. ** ** *Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:* * Experienced in the IHI Model for Improvement, Lean-Six Sigma, or other formal process improvement methods. Able to coach and develop others with same. * Must be or become familiar proficient with EHR (Cerner Millenium) reporting, Discern Analytics, Midas+ quality system, Vizient clinical database, report writing tools such as Tableau and others. * Contemporary knowledge of quality processes, performance improvement, and patient safety in healthcare. * Strong organization, problem solving and time management skills. * Exceptional level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work on highly sensitive and confidential projects. * Outstanding negotiation, written and verbal communication skills * Outstanding listening, interpersonal relationship-building, and problem-solving skills * Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated ability to complete projects successfully on time and within budget. * Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to coach and mentor others. ** ** *License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:* * Current license as a Registered Nurse required (NY or CT). * Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred. * Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or similar quality improvement certification preferred.
