SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse Supervisor is a nursing leader who serves as a resource in coordinating and overseeing patient care delivery. The Nurse Supervisor provides leadership, direction, facilitates patient flow, assures appropriate staffing, and consults with nursing, medical and administration as necessary. Maintains standards of professional nursing practice and supports the nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as initiatives. All practices and patient care decisions will be consistent with established hospital policy and procedure, DNV, and all other state and federal laws. The night shift, weekend, and holiday supervisors are also the leading management person in the institution itself.

LOCATION: Massena Hospital
DEPARTMENT: Nursing Administration
SCHEDULE: 12.5 hour variable shifts
ATTRIBUTES
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Current NYS RN licensure
Bachelor’s Degree; or actively enrolled in a BSN program within 6 months of hire
National Certification within 2 years of hire
BLS certification
ACLS within 3 months of hire
PALS within 3 months of hire
Required: Three years of experience in an acute care facility or related specialty area Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word required; Meditech and EPIC strongly preferred)
Preferred: Experience as a Nursing Supervisor, Director/Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides on site management of the hospital during the off shift, normally when the hospital management is not on site.
Manages the delivery of patient care and manages any issues that arise
Manages occurrences during the shift ensuring appropriate documentation
Facilitates professional collaboration with all staff and providers
Provides Respiratory Therapy support when needed
Assists staff in clinical problem solving
Rounds on patients and families with concerns or complaints
Rounds on admitted patients in the Emergency Department
Mentors and coaches staff in clinical and behavioral events
Facilitates patient flow
Collaborates with staff to provide considerate care that respects patient’s personal values, beliefs, taking spiritual and cultural needs into account
Supports patients and families participation in making informed decisions
Reinforces Patients’ Rights, collaborates with staff to assess patient’s physical, psychological, and social status needs
Reinforces policies and procedures
Prioritizes multiple emergent situations
Responds to codes
Facilitates quality care through knowledge of and reinforcement with the staff, pertinent to regulatory issues
Participates in the quality assessment/performance improvement programs
Contributes to staff performance evaluations
Seeks assistance appropriately from Directors of Nursing and/or Administrator on call
Interfaces with all departments and communicates with the appropriate leader in a timely collegial manner
Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, physicians
Collaborates with staff to identify safety risks and takes appropriate action
Acts as patient and staff advocate in Infection Control
Allocates and reallocates human resources appropriately
Maintains staffing patterns
Maintains all mandatory educational requirements

13662The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
