Who You Are
+ Possession of a nursing degree or diploma
+ Current unencumbered RN license for the state of NY
+ 3 years nursing supervisory experience
+ Preferably possess a BA degree in nursing or health care related field

Position Summary:
Coordinate the health care of people in all The Arc Erie County IRA’s, supervise all nurses working in this area, ensure that all health-related regulations have established policies and procedures that are being implemented and coordinate health-related training of staff members.
Reporting Relationship:
Receives direct supervision from the Associate Director of Nursing or designee. Provides supervision to the nurses working in Residential. Provides support to members of the Supervisory Team (Managers, Supervisors, Behavior Specialists, etc.) regarding health care issues.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Ensure that the needs of each person are assessed based on information available such as test results, reports, laboratory data, observation and staff input.
+ Ensure that an individualized plan of nursing services is developed for each consumer who requires nursing care, including those who require medication administration for diagnosed medical conditions.
+ Ensure that the individualized plans of nursing services are updated annually or whenever there is significant change in a consumer’s condition.
+ Ensure that direct care staff are educated about the chronic conditions and related health care needs for each person and ensure that it is documented.
+ Assist nurses in determining which nursing procedures direct care staff will be allowed to perform, and which staff will be allowed to perform them.
+ Assist nurses in providing initial and ongoing training to direct care staff in all nursing tasks and/or functions they will perform and ensure there are periodic reviews.
+ Ensure that annual clinical performance evaluations are conducted for direct care staff for procedures that include, but are not limited to medication administration.
+ Ensure that all health-related tracking forms are assessed and monitored on a regular basis.
+ Ensure that each person’s medication regimen is assessed and reviewed at least every six months or whenever there is a significant change.
+ Ensure that each person is assessed for self-administration of medication and assist in planning programs as needed.
+ Ensure the availability of medical services for each person, including special medical services.
+ Ensure that people receive treatment for illness and injuries as needed, including special diets.
+ Ensure that there is appropriate procurement, storage and inventory of all medication and medical supplies, including controlled substances.
+ Ensure that there is person-specific medication information available for each medication that is administered.
+ Coordinate health-related staff training, including medication administration certification and recertification.
+ Facilitate communication between nurses, staff members and Community Health Care Providers.
+ Maintain documentation on medication errors and ensure counseling, remediation or new training as needed.
+ Provide on call coverage as needed.
+ Complete routine paperwork responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Nursing, which includes attendance at required meetings and participation on various committees.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Nursing Degree/Diploma from an accredited university or nursing program PLUS must possess a current unencumbered license to practice as an RN in the State of New York and must have nursing experience, with at least three years of supervisory experience.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Health Care related field is preferred. Willingness to obtain specialized training if necessary, i.e. Safe Person Movement Program, SCIP-R

Ability to bend stoop, squat, kneel, sit, reach, stand walk, push pull, climb flights of stairs, and lift/transfer a minimum of 15 lbs. and in case of emergency over 50 lbs., See, hear, listen, speak clear, have motor coordination; grip strength, eye-hand coordination. Physical agility/ability to react to life-threatening emergency or to intervene in a crisis situation including using your body as an intervention (SCIP or other techniques) as prescribed, to assure safety of our individuals
+ Mental Requirements:
The ability to read, write, analyze, be perceptive/comprehensive, show good judgment, have good math & decision making skills, independent action, planning & prioritizing and follow directions. Work independently as well as cooperatively with others. Be approachable, enthusiastic, personable, work under pressure and meet job-related deadlines accordingly.
+ Human Relations Skills:
The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, demonstrate the ability to be a leader and serve as an appropriate role model to staff members. Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner. Adhere to and administer Agency’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance to at all times.
+ Equipment Operation:
The ability to operate medical equipment such as nebulizers, suction devices and the like; ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, copier, fax machine, and laminator.
