Nursing Supervisor - Scott Unit

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible and accountable for directing and facilitating the flow of patient care activities of the department/area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supports and assists with the development and actualization of the department's/area's goals (strategic plan). Coordinates and directs the department's/area's patient care operations for an assigned shift. Competently provides care appropriate to age and specialty of the patient as defined by the department. Manages personnel effectively, and analyzes workload and skill requirement to meet care needs of assigned shift. Promotes and practices cost containment. Practices and promotes patient/family advocacy and assists with maintenance of ethical procedure. Practices and promotes positive peer and guest relations. Participates in and promotes quality improvement and nursing research activities. Functions as a leader. Actively participates in and promotes the development of self and others. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department. Performs related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard patient care equipment, related supplies, and mechanical devices. Standard office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort. Mild to moderate physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients. Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs. Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication. Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs. Shift work may be required. Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury. May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients. May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by a designated Executive Director and/or Nursing Director. 

Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse (RN) with Associate's Degree in Nursing or related field. Four (4) years of clinical RN experience, including two (2) years as a charge nurse. Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
