Job Overview
The Nutrition Officer will be the focal point for the IRC nutrition program, providing technical oversight to the IRC nutrition teams, and collaborating closely with other stakeholders in the nutrition and health sectors. S/He will be responsible for the day-to-day functionality of the nutrition programs to ensure key prevention and curative interventions are implemented as planned and in accordance with Ministry of Health (MoH) guidelines.
Major Responsibilities:
• Implement emergency nutrition responses, including OTC and ITC, adhering to protocols.
• Promote Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Baby-Friendly Community Initiatives (BFCI).
• Build capacity through mentorship and refresher training for nutrition staff, Health workers and VHTs.
• Deliver health and nutrition education at community and facility levels.
• Monitor nutrition supply requisition, storage, and consumption at field level.
• Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nutrition mass screening exercises for under-fives
• Provide nutrition counseling, including for chronic medical conditions.
• Compile and submit weekly, biweekly, monthly and quarterly reports for donors and IRC programs.
• Supervision of direct reports, including conducting Performance Management Evaluation (PME).
Qualifications
• Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
• Must be registered with respective professional body.
• Minimum of 3 years direct experience implementing nutrition, food security, or related programming with a humanitarian or development agency.
• Experience of maternal infant and young child nutrition with strong BFHI/BFCI approaches
• Proven analytical, planning, communication/ negotiation skills and ability to think strategically
• Experience in report writing and excellent computer skills
• Ability to work in hardship areas (previous experience in a settlement/camp setting) will be an added advantage
• Flexible and positive personality
• Knowledge of nutrition protocols, including SPHERE standards, WHO protocols, and MoH Nutrition Protocols
• Experience in community health education and mobilization practices and standards required.
