Description: This position will assist in the implementation of SNAP -Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program) on a local level by providing direct and indirect nutrition education to the SNAP eligible population throughout the state. Supports and assists with delivery of programs through partnerships with community based organizations, schools, etc. that serve the SNAP eligible audience; and administers pre-/post-tests and evaluations to provide input for routine outcome reporting. The vision for the SNAP -Ed program is to empower participants to improve behaviors related to nutrition and physical activity in accordance with current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA food guidance. Due to the target audience demographics, the incumbent is preferred to be bilingual in Spanish and English. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: N.C. Knowledge of the community’s infrastructure and culture; ability to teach nutrition/food safety/thrifty food shopping/food preparation/physical activity (training will be provided), to network with other individuals and agency representatives, to work with others, to recruit participants, and to learn nutrition and nutrition related information as outlined in the project; good computer data entry and e-mail communication skills; knowledge of the low income community and its infrastructure and culture; ability to teach in classroom settings; skills to adapt to change as the audience and/or the program changes. Excellent oral and written communication skills; time management skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word and Excel. Ability to work in high-pressure atmosphere while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor; ability to adhere to operational policies and procedures; budgeting, financial management skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality is required.
