Responsible for ensuring that all patients receive adequate nutrition for maintenance of health and avoiding malnutrition. The nutritionist goals are accomplished by screening and assessing nutrition needs, developing and documenting nutrition care plans, implementing care plans in consultation with the medical team. Provides education and counseling to patients and families on special diets and nutrition related health education programs to community. Provide recommendation on medical nutrition therapy to physicians and nurses.
Work requires knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science or closely related field and up to 1 yr of post degree course work and/or internship & no previous experience, 3-6 months of on job training/orientation. Work requires the analytical ability to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analysis, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs. Work requires the ability to counsel and educate patients and their families, assign and follow up on the work of other employees, or perform other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
