**Hours of Work :** 8-430 **Days Of Week :** M-F **Work Shift :** **Job Description :** The Coder 3 works closely with the business office to research, monitor, and resolve coding denials for a large and robust medical group with multiple specialties. The position reviews third party payer reimbursement denials based on the following: provider documentation, coding accuracy, medical necessity, modifier assignment, applicable federal, state and local guidelines and payer policies. Using data from these reviews, the coder 3 identifies and works to resolve documentation and/or coding issues, and takes part in creating education materials for coding staff and providers to follow-up on best practices for coding and documentation. The position is involved in auditing and coding compliance responsibilities as well as other coding duties as needed. Your Job Requirements: + High School Diploma or GED required. + AAPC or AHIMA coding certification required. + Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. + In-depth knowledge of diagnosis and procedural code sets and coding conventions, including but not limited to CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS expected. + Minimum of 2 years of experience in analysis and resolution of coding denials preferred. + Understanding and monitoring changes to third party operating procedures and practices. + Experience with a variety of healthcare specialties preferred - examples including but not limited to ob/gyn, neurosurgery, transplant services, etc + Epic experience and specialized coding and/or billing certification a plus Your Job Duties: + Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State and/or County laws and regulations related to coding and documentation guidelines. + Reviews explanation of benefits, payer policies and other regulatory sources to determine reason for denials + Reviews of medical records, patient medical history and physical exams, physician orders, progress notes, consultation reports, diagnostic reports, operative and pathology reports, and discharge summaries to verify whether the diagnosis and procedure codes are supported by the documentation as submitted to the payer. + Provides feedback to internal clients on corrections required or other results from coding review, including but not limited to examples of provider documentation and physician charge code entry that do not meet regulatory requirements, examples of missed or incorrectly submitted procedural or diagnosis codes during charge review by coding team, other opportunities for education + Identifies clinical coding and documentation trends and training needs to improve the quality of documentation, charge entry, charge review and other workflows that can affect third-party payments. + Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of electronic medical records systems. + Ability to manage significant work load, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision. + Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion. + Identifies clinical coding and documentation trends a training needs to improve the quality of documentation, charge entry, charge review and other workflows that can affect third-party payments. + Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of electronic medical records systems. + Ability to manage significant work load, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision. + Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
