Observability Platform Product ManagerSummary of the role
We are seeking an experienced Observability Platform Product Manager to drive the vision, strategy, and execution of our Observability-as-a-Platform initiative. This role will focus on enabling self-service observability for engineering, operations, SRE, and customers, ensuring seamless insights into the performance and reliability of Navitaire’s products and services. As a platform leader, you will define how observability is productized and embedded into our technology stack, fostering adoption and usability across teams. The platform is built on OpenTelemetry and will integrate with modern observability tooling, such as Splunk, Grafana, and Azure services. This is a hybrid position and would require you to work in our Salt Lake City or Minneapolis office 2-3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Roadmap – Define the strategic vision for observability as a platform. Develop a roadmap that balances short-term needs with long-term scalability and aligns with Navitaire’s business objectives.
Developer & SRE Enablement – Design and implement self-service capabilities that empower internal teams to instrument, monitor, and analyze their services with minimal friction.
Observability Pipeline Development – Lead the creation of a scalable telemetry pipeline that centralizes logs, metrics, and traces across infrastructure and applications.
Customer-Centric Observability – Develop and enhance customer-facing observability features, enabling airline customers to monitor and analyze their service performance through dashboards and data streaming.
Stakeholder Collaboration – Act as the bridge between engineering, SRE, operations, customer support, and product teams to ensure observability goals align with business needs.
Evangelism & Adoption – Advocate for observability best practices across the organization. Drive cultural change towards proactive observability, ensuring teams see value in instrumentation and monitoring.
Integration & Ecosystem Alignment – Drive the adoption of OpenTelemetry and integration with key observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, and .NET applications, ensuring seamless data collection and analysis.
Agile & SCRUM Execution – Serve as the Product Owner for the observability platform team, prioritizing features, managing backlogs, and ensuring iterative delivery of impactful capabilities.
Required Skills and Experience
Platform Product Management – Proven experience in productizing internal platforms, particularly in observability, developer experience, or cloud infrastructure.
Technical Expertise – Strong understanding of OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, log aggregation, and metric collection. Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services, Splunk, and Grafana is a plus.
Observability Best Practices – Deep knowledge of monitoring, alerting, SLOs/SLIs, and incident response workflows.
Data Engineering & Telemetry – Experience with designing and optimizing data pipelines for observability telemetry ingestion.
Customer & Developer Empathy – Ability to translate user needs into platform capabilities, ensuring both internal and external customers can effectively access and interpret observability data.
Agile Leadership – Strong track record of managing Scrum teams, prioritizing work effectively, and driving iterative value delivery.
Analytical & Decision-Making Skills – Proficiency in analyzing observability data using Excel, Python, R, or Power BI to derive insights and guide product decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Education – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields; MBA or equivalent experience is a plus.
Certifications – Relevant certifications in product management, agile methodologies, or observability tools.
Industry Experience – Previous experience leading observability or platform initiatives in a technology-driven company or cloud-native environment.
