The OB OR Scrub Tech, under the supervision of Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is responsible for preparing supplies and equipment for interventions, using appropriate techniques, assisting with procedures, data collection and supports patient care. Provides technical services as assigned and directed. The OB OR Scrub Tech assists and/or performs patient procedures that are within the scope of their unit specific Skills Summation. This position works in an in-patient / hospital based environment.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Scrubs into OB Operating Room.

* Assists the health care team during surgical procedures by integrating an understanding for anatomy and physiology with the surgical procedure.

* Provides safe patient care for the intra-operative phase, including specimen handling and medication labeling and handling.

* Assists RNs with patient care.

* Reports and implements corrective actions under the direction of the RN.

* Prioritizes and addresses technical needs in conjunction with patient conditions.

* Maintains department cleanliness including following procedures for clean up after treatments.

* Assists in transporting patients, equipment, and supplies.

* Assists with transfer of patient with restrictions in weight bearing or impairment of motor status.

 
Team Development
* Applies principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures.

* Performs maternal and newborn patient registration.

* Provides and maintains provider preferred items.

* Demonstrates understanding of the Unit's Standards of Care and Practice and Administrative Policies as well as being able to locate Policy and Procedures Manuals on the assigned units.

* Focuses on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students.

* Demonstrates ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed, even during emergent situations.

 
Equipment and Supply Management
* Prepares appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific procedures and anticipates the sequence of events and needs of the surgeon and patient.

* Maintains, monitors and restocks equipment and supplies as assigned or as necessary.

* Opens surgical equipment for each case appropriately and anticipates the physician's needs during each procedure.

* Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of department medical equipment.

* Restocks OB ORs and LDRP Rooms.

 
Administrative
* Answers, evaluates and prioritizes incoming administrative line telephone calls, communicates effectively with callers obtaining complete and accurate information to determine the need(s) of the caller.

* Maintains unit documents (i.e. specialty beds, observation patients).

* Maintains charts and copies charts as requested.

* Assist charge nurse with clerical duties.

 
Compliance/Safety
* Prepares instruments for sterile processing per organizational policy.

* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

* Demonstrates and utilizes the guidelines of care and practice via the nursing process and in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing Laws and Regulations being able to perform at a fully competent level.

* Demonstrates accuracy of documentation of assessments, interventions and patient responses as evidenced by the appropriate documentation systems.

* Follows guidelines for safety with regards to contact precautions and all policies/procedures dealing with blood borne pathogens.

* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required


Completion of OR Technician education - Preferred

 


Certification & Licensures
BLS (American Heart Association)- Required


Current, unrestricted CNA/LNA license in the State of Arizona- Preferred


Completion of PCT training- Preferred

 


Experience
Minimum 6 month experience as US/CNA- Preferred


Experience as Scrub Technician in OR - Preferred

 

Bi-lingual- Preferred
