DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm with one hour lunch break LOCATION: 3600 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive *** Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range*** Example of Duties Under the general direction of the Public Transit Department (PTD) Director, develops, administers, implements, and enforces the department health and safety program. Assists all PTD divisions in the responsibility for the development, administration, and implementation of the department health and safety program, in addition to the Municipality of Anchorage health and safety program. Provide expertise regarding safety codes, rules, and practices and guidance on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to all of PTD services. Conduct inspections of the occupational safety and health compliance system and conduct/direct internal investigation of occupational safety and health issues or complaints. Provides in-depth guidance on OSHA general and construction industry safety standards and regulations, Uniform Fire Code provisions, etc. Monitor Safety Management Suite software, website, health and safety policies, procedures, and safety toolbox information. Present reports regarding occupational safety and health compliance progress and other duties as assigned. Responsible for facility safety inspections, and safety assessments for the facilities; develops contract specifications for health and safety; oversees contracted performance for specification compliance. This person will work collaboratively with the Director of Health and Safety, managers, and department trainers to identify safety training needs and to report performance levels of OSHA compliance. Perform other required duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences High School diploma, GED or equivalent, and eight (8) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field. OR Associate’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and six (6) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field. OR Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and four (4) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field. OR Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies or a discipline related to occupational health and safety and two (2) years of experience in safety engineering, industrial health and safety, or a related field. All applicants must possess and/or obtain: + Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire. + OSHA 10/30 hour train the trainer for General Industry and Construction Industry within six months of hire. + American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification within 90 days of hire. + American Heart Organization Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
