Occupational Health Supervisor

Primary Purpose

Provides support and direct supervision of medical assistants and nurses in the Occupational Health department.  Leads the team in providing excellent customer service and direct patient care in an industrial setting.  Communicates all pertinent information to the Occupational Health Manager.  Works in conjunction with the Occupational Health Manager on all aspects of workers' compensation cases.  Manages internal and external organizational and regulatory compliance issues. Partners with the Health and Wellness Centers to provide care and wellness education to employees. Collaborates and communicates with production and supporting departments to ensure employee safety.  Participates with safety and ergonomic committees to provide guidance. Hours 3:00pm - 12:00am

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision to medical staff in the Occupational Health department. Ensures the Medical team is providing excellent patient care within established medical directives, policies and procedures. Is action-oriented in establishing clear direction, giving feedback and holding employees accountable for performance. Audits patient charts for accuracy and completeness. Instills trust by leading the team with honesty and transparency. Completes departmental tasks such as scheduling, payroll and supply management to keep department running smoothly. Prioritizes patient safety including injury prevention and treatment. Ensures all injuries receive proper follow-up. Attends safety meetings, accident review boards (ARBs) and incident review boards (IRBs) as needed. Manages all aspects of the workers' compensation program and keeps the Occupational Health Manager informed. Communicates the plan of care to other members of management regarding restrictions, appointments and other pertinent information. Completes annual competencies, continuing education and maintains mandatory certifications such as CPR and licensure. Independently seeks professional development opportunities including offsite conferences or courses. Maintains and/or acquires Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) and/or Certified Manager certification(s). Builds effective team through education and individual development plans. Ensures direct reports complete monthly safety training (MST) and other required education. Prioritizes administration of corporate initiatives and regulatory compliance such as bloodborne pathogens (BBP), OSHA, corporate drug and alcohol testing program and wellness center utilization. Ensures all drug testing is performed accurately and completely. Navigates wellness center visits through referrals and education. Fosters positive relationships with members of production, recruitment and other supporting departments. Builds knowledge of production tasks and plant layout through weekly walk-throughs. Instills trust with business partners through communication and follow-through on all matters related to occupational health.

Qualifications

RN required. Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) preferred. 3 - 5 years’ occupational health/clinical nursing experience. 1 - 2 years’ supervisory experience preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data management and reporting.
